Consisting in decorating the surface of objects like a mosaic, the art of inlay is one of the most ancient Iranian craft techniques. Elements are arranged in regular geometric patterns with small side-by-side triangles (made of wood, metal, or bone). The thinner the triangles, the better the finishing. Within an inlaid scheme, at least four triangles are used to create the smallest geometric unit, up to a maximum of 400 triangles.
