Glazing spread in Iran more than anywhere else in the world and is the art of fire and copper, characterised by dark and luminous colours giving a unique aesthetic quality to this material. One of its first examples is the work of Isfahan, consisting of a design of birds and animals on a blue, green, yellow, and red flower, made during the Safavid dynasty and described in French traveller Jean Chardin’s writings.
